Diamonds

Diamonds are considered one of the most valuable items in Minecraft. They are hard to obtain and are mostly found somewhere hidden in the ground not far from lava. They can be found in groups from one to eight diamonds.

Diamonds are used to craft armor, swords, enchanting tables and also jukeboxes. In servers who don’t have an economy plugin installed or the essentials money commands are disabled diamonds (and other valuable blocks) are used to trade for other items.

Mining
Diamonds can be mined ONLY with an iron pickaxe or higher. If you try to mine them with a wooden or stone pickaxe the ore will be destroyed and no diamond will be dropped. Diamond ore can be mined by using a pickaxe enchanted with Silk Touch. You will need to heat the ore in a furnace in order to obtain the diamond.

Crafting
Diamonds can be crafted into many items. An easy way to store them is making diamond blocks of them by simply filling your crafting table with 9 diamonds. If you want your diamonds back you just need to put the block back into the crafting table and you will get 9 diamonds back.

Useful hints
- Diamonds appear to be found in a short distance of redstone ore and lava (not allways true)
- When mining a diamond first check the area around it, lava could destroy the drop.
- Never keep to many diamonds in your inventory. If you get killed by lava or mobs you lose them ;(
